McAuley leads the way for Allen: Colby McAuley had his best season as a professional, leading the Americans in several categories, that included scoring, with 63 points, goals with 25, power play goals with 12, overall shots on goal with 197, and tied for the team lead in assists with 38. Prior to this year, his previous high in points was 34 in 2022-2023. The native of Sherwood Park, Alberta, just finished his seventh professional regular season. He joined the Americans as a rookie in 2017-2018, on a two-way contract with the San Jose Barracuda (AHL). The 27-year-old forward played his junior hockey with the Prince George Cougars of the Western Hockey League, where he played for former Americans Assistant Coach Richard Matvichuk, and scored 96 points in three seasons.

In the Season Series: Idaho won the season series 8-3, with eight of the 11 games at Idaho Central Arena. The Steelheads made only one trip to North Texas during the 2023-2024 season, and that was at the end of the calendar year. The Americans won two of the three games at Credit Union of Texas Event Center. The Americans lost to Idaho in the Mountain Division Finals last year.

Crone enters the playoffs on a HOT streak: Last season’s Most Valuable Player Hank Crone, extended his point streak to a team-high 10 games with an assist in Sunday’s regular season finale. He had the best points per game average of ECHL players who played in more than 20 games this season, with an average of 1.38 points per game. Crone just finished his sophomore season with the Americans. He started the year in the American Hockey League with the Chicago Wolves.

Rolling into the postseason: The Americans finished the regular season with points in seven of their last eight games that included taking five of six points from Eastern Conference powerhouse Adirondack.

Playoff Roster: The Americans announced their playoff roster for the Kelly Cup Playoffs last week which includes two players eligible from the American Hockey League. Ottawa Senators prospects, Tarun Fizer, and Leevi Merilainen are both on the playoff roster. Merilainen beat the Idaho Steelheads on opening night in Boise. Fizer had 10 points in 10 games for the Americans before returning to AHL Belleville.
