Tulsa, Oklahoma – The Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Ottawa Senators, opened the regular season on Saturday night in Oklahoma, and it was the Oilers coming away with a 5-4 victory in front of a big crowd of over 13,000 in Tulsa.
A wild back-and-forth affair saw the lead change several times, but the Oilers scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal at the 5:40 mark of the final period on a goal by Tulsa’s Zach Murray. The Americans pulled starter Jesper Vikman late but were unable to tie the score for a fifth time in the game.
The Americans received goals from Chase Coughlin, Miko Matikka, Sam Lipkin, and Mathieu De St. Phalle. St Phalle, Spencer Asuchak, and Hank Crone all had a two-point night.
The Americans continue the four-game road trip next weekend in Boise, Idaho as they open a two-game series on Friday night.
