Americans win the first battle: The Americans took the first game of a three-game series against the Tulsa Oilers, on Friday night, winning 3-2 at CUTX Event Center. The Americans jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead on goals from Blake Murray (20), and Kam Kielly (9). It was Kielly’s first goal with the Americans since signing last week, and his first of the game. Kielly scored his second of the game and 10th of the season at the 3:48 mark of the second period, to give the Americans a 3-0 lead. The Oilers would get on the board halfway through the second period as Kyle Crnkovic netted his 18th. The Oilers scored one more time in the third period to make it a one-goal game, but that was as close as they would get. Mark Sinclair stopped 34 of 36 Tulsa shots to earn his 10th win of the season, and help the Americans jump the Oilers in the standings moving into sole possession of third place in the Mountain Division.
In the Season Series: The Allen Americans defeated the Tulsa Oilers on Friday night winning their eighth game against Tulsa this season (8-5-1). The Americans are 5-4-1 at home against the Oilers in the season series.
Eight is great for Crone: Last season’s Most Valuable Player Hank Crone extended his point streak to a team-high eight games. He assisted on Blake Murray’s 20th goal of the season in the opening period. He has 52 points in 38 games.
Point Streak reaches six games: The Americans extended their point streak to six games with a 3-2 win on Friday night. It was the first time in six games the Americans did not need overtime to get a victory.
Hardie with a three spot: Americans forward James Hardie had three assists on Friday night leading the Americans with a three-point game assisting on all three Allen goals. It was the second time this year he had a three-point night at CUTX Event Center. The other was in December, when he had a hat trick against the Americans as a member of the Rapid City Rush. He has nine points in 10 games since being traded to Allen.
The battle for the final two: The Americans moved into third place in the Mountain Division with a win over Tulsa on Friday night. A win on Saturday night would lock up a playoff spot for Allen. The Americans have 68 points with two games to play. Utah is a point behind Allen, with one game remaining. Tulsa also has 67 points with two games remaining.
