Dallas/Allen, Texas – The Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Ottawa Senators, beat the Wichita Thunder on Sunday afternoon 4-3 at Credit Union of Texas Event Center in front of an announced crowd of 3,970.
The game was tied three times on Sunday before Americans forward Blake Murray broke the tie in the third period. Murray’s 17th goal of the season at the 15:46 mark of the final frame turned out to be the game winning goal for Allen. He leads the Americans this season with four game winning goals.
“It’s tough to beat this team right now,” said Murray. “We have so many skilled players in our lineup no lead is safe.”
Liam Finlay scored for the third straight game since returning to the lineup. Finlay missed 46 straight games due to illness. He has six points in seven games this season (5 goals and 1 assist).
“It feels so good to be back on the ice,” said Finaly. “It was a long road back, but well worth it. This team could do some damage in the playoffs with all the talent on our roster. It will be nice to have a few days off before we face Kansas City on Friday.”
Ty Farmer scored his first professional goal on Sunday afternoon. Farmer put a backhander over the right pad of Wichita goalie Trevor Gorsuch midway through the second period. It was his sixth point of the season (1 goal and 5 assists).
“It was a long time coming,” noted Farmer. “It’s a special moment in your career that you will never forget.”
The Americans moved into that final playoff spot in the division with the win. Allen is off until Friday when they face Kansas City.
