Dallas/Allen, Texas – The Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Ottawa Senators, announced today the team has traded defenseman Joe Gatenby to the Newfoundland Growlers for future considerations.

Joe Gatenby appeared in 23 games for the Americans this season and had six points (0 goals and 6 assists).

The native of Kelowna, BC joined the Americans in November after playing the first month of the season with the Fort Wayne Komets. Gatenby was a part of a trade that brought William Provost and Gatenby to Allen in a two-for-one deal sending forward Chad Butcher to the Komets.

“We would like to thank Joe (Gatenby) for his time here in Allen, said Coach Chad Costello. “It was simply a numbers game. With several defenseman returning from the injured list of late, we needed to subtract from our lineup. We wish him the best in the future.”

The Americans return to action next Wednesday in Independence, Missouri, as they open a three-game series against the Kansas City Mavericks.
