Friday’s Recap: much like last weeks game in Tulsa, the Americans were involved in another back-and-forth affair. The game was tied after each period, meaning overtime was needed on Friday night with both teams claiming a point in regulation. The Americans wouldn’t take long to end the game, as forward Riley Kidney scored his third goal of the night sending the 5,000 plus in attendance home in disappointment and a 5-4 Allen victory. Michael Gildon was the only other Americans player in double figures with a goal and an assist. The Americans outshot the Steelheads 39-29 for the game.
Perfect Penalty Kill: for the second game in a row, the Americans held their opponent without a power play goal, as the Steelheads went 0-for-3 on Friday night. The Americans are one of seven teams in the ECHL to remain perfect on the penalty kill through two games, as Allen opponents are 0-for-6 (100.0 %).
The Ottawa Pipeline: the Ottawa Senators recalled goaltender Kevin Reidler from the Americans and assigned him to AHL Belleville. Reidler did not appear in a game with the Americans during his brief stay in DFW. Reidler served as the backup netminder last weekend in Tulsa. Meanwhile Luke Mistelbacher, who was assigned to Allen by Ottawa from Belleville on Thursday made his Americans debut on Friday and was tied for second on the team with three shots on goal.
Three Timer: Riley Kidney scored the first hat trick of the season on Friday night including the game winning goal in overtime. The Americans led the ECHL with 10 hat tricks in 2025-2026.
Matikka Injured: Utah Mammoth prospect Miko Matikka left last night’s game against Idaho with a lower body injury. Matikka collided with Idaho goalie Jake Barczewski, who also left the game in the second period with a lower body injury. Status for both players for tonight’s game is unknown.
