Americans look for series edge tonight

Allen, Texas – The Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the Ottawa Senators (NHL), and Belleville Senators (AHL), play Game 5 the Kelly Cup Playoffs tonight in Allen. The series is tied 2-2. Kansas City won Game 4 on Friday night 2-1. Game 6 will be on Monday night at CUTX Event Center.

Series Tied: The Allen Americans dropped a 2-1 decision on Friday night in Allen in front of a packed house of 5,306 at CUTX Event Center.  The Americans took the early lead just over five minutes into the game as Kris Myllari scored his first of the playoffs from Grant Hebert and Stefan Fournier. Kansas City tied the score late in the opening frame as Loren Ulett slid one into the Americans net for his first of the playoffs. It would remain tied until just under two minutes left in regulation when a Ryan Harrison shot went off an Americans player’s stick and into the Allen net. The Mavericks would hold on for a 2-1 win to tie the series at 2-2.

Power Play Struggles: The Americans power play went 0-4 on Friday night and  are 0-for-7 in the last two games. The Americans managed just five shots on net with the man advantage.

Offense Quiet: The Americans have scored just seven goals, in the four playoff games this postseason. The Americans regular season scoring leader Hank Crone has gone three straight playoff games without a point. He had three assists in Game 1.

No Home Ice Advantage: The Americans won two of three in Kansas City this series however they have struggled at home against the Mavericks this season. Kansas City won two of three in the regular season in Allen, while the Americans swept the season series in KC.
