INSIDE AMERICANS TRAINING CAMP
Today we caught up with rookie forward Divyne Appollon, following Day 5 of Allen Americans Training Camp. The native of Seat Pleasant, Maryland talks about trying to find a home in the ECHL.
Divyne, you started your junior hockey in the Lone Star State, playing for parts of three seasons with the Amarillo Wranglers of the NAHL. Tell us about your time in the Texas Pan Handle?
“That’s the place where I really started improving my game. I really felt my time with the Wranglers was important to help me grow and be the player I am today.”
You played with a couple of teams last season in Single A hockey in Quad City of the SPHL and Pee Dee of the FPHL. What is the biggest difference between the talent at the Single A hockey compared to Double A?
“In the ECHL, the speed of the game is much more noticeable. While we had skilled players at Single A level, there are so many more players in this league who have the speed and talent with an opportunity to play at the highest level.”
You had the chance to suit up in a couple games last season with the Americans. What was that opportunity like?
“It was a great experience for me. The players were so nice and helpful. Coach Martinson is one of the best coaches in hockey. His record speaks for itself. I’m excited to get another chance here in Allen.”
You were showing off your fighting technique in a friendly matter this morning at the end of practice. Tell us about that?
“Just having a little fun with a few of the guys. We do that from time to time. Nothing serious just practicing.
Finally, what do you think you need to do in this camp to earn a spot on the roster?
“I know my job. I know why I’m here. I’m going to stick to my style of play and hope it’s good enough to stick around”
