Frisco, Texas - The Allen Americans (3-2-0), ECHL affiliate of the Ottawa Senators (NHL), and Belleville Senators (AHL), played the second game of back-to-back School Day Games on Thursday morning in Frisco, and the home team scoring late in the final frame to beat the Idaho Steelheads 3-2 at Comerica Center.
Miko Matikka scored the game winner for the Americans, his second goal of the season, coming with 23.2 seconds left on the clock. Both Matikka and Sam Lipkin touched the puck on the way into the net, but it was Matikka credited with the goal. It also ended the Americans power play drought.
“Yes Sam (Lipkin) and I both got a stick on the puck, but he (Lipkin) said it’s your goal. It really didn’t matter. We got the two points today and in the end that’s all that matters” Miko Matikka
The Americans had to rally back from a 2-goal deficit in the second period and tied the game in the final two and a half minutes as Mathieu De St Phalle scored his third goal of the year. Earlier in the period Riley Kidney scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season.
The Americans outshot the Steelheads 39-27. Allen has outshot their opponent in all five games this season.
