School Day Game Recap: The Americans and Gargoyles combined for 13 goals on Thursday morning as the home team prevailed 8-5 at CUTX Event Center. Danny Katic led the way with a four-point game (3 goals and 1 assist). Colton Hargrove and Brayden Watts each had a pair of goals. Watts, like Katic had a four-point game adding two assists as well. Lukas Sillinger opened the scoring with first pro goal. Nine different Americans players made the score sheet. Michael Gildon had three assists while Ty Prefontaine and Harrison Blaisdell each had two helpers. The Americans made the most of their special teams chances going 1-for-3 on the power play while adding their fifth shorthanded goal of the season. Brayden Watts shorty was the first by an Americans player not named Colby McAuley or Harrison Blaisdell. The five goals in the third period was a season high. The Gargoyles outshot the Americans 32-28. The crowd of over 6,000 marked the fifth sellout of the season by the club.
Head-to-Head vs. the Eastern Conference: The Americans are 4-3-0 against the Eastern Conference this season. 2-1 against Norfolk, and 1-2 against South Carolina. The Americans are 3-1-0 on home ice against teams from the East.
Anania Streak Snapped: Americans defenseman Andre Anania was held without a point on Thursday morning snapping his career high nine-game point streak. He was one game shy of tying Sam Sedley’s season-high 10 game point streak.
Katic Hatty: The three-goal performance from Danny Katic on Thursday was his third hat trick of the season. The Americans have had a team-high nine hat tricks this season. Two of the three hat tricks for Katic have happened on home ice. His two previous hat tricks both came against Tulsa.
Asuchak Returns: Americans forward Spencer Asuchak returned to the lineup on Thursday playing in his first game since February 7th. He finished the game with no points and two penalty minutes. He’s 10th on the team in scoring with 27 points in 44 games.
