News: Americans add collegiate forward

Rapid City, SD – The Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Ottawa Senators, and AHL’s Belleville Senators, announced today the team has signed forward Chaz Smedsrud to an Amateur tryout.

Chaz Smedsrud joins the Americans from Union College, where the 25-year-old senior had 22 points in 37 games. The 6-foot-2 and 195-pound forward is a native of Luverne, Minnesota.

Prior to his time at Union College, he had one season in the USHL with the Madison Capitols, where he put up 24 points in 62 games (11 goals and 13 assists).

He will jump right into the Americans lineup tonight in Game 2 of a three-game series in Rapid City. Allen dropped the first game on Wednesday night 5-2. The Americans remain four points behind Utah for the fourth and final playoff spot in the ECHL’s Mountain Division. Game time this evening is at 8:05 PM CDT.
