The Americans cut the lead to one goal with three and a half minutes left in the third period when Branden Troock scored his 12th goal of the season, but the Rush held on for the win. Hayden Lavigne made the start for the Americans that night suffering the loss. He stopped 34-of-37 shots on net. Rapid City outshot the Americans 17-to4 in the first period. The Americans went 0-for-4 on the power play.

2021 Postseason: The Allen Americans finished with the top record in the Mountain Division last season and went as far as the Western Conference Finals. The Americans dropped a Best-of-Five series to the Fort Wayne Komets 3- 1, losing three straight games in the series. It was the furthest the team had gone in a playoff year since going to the Kelly Cup Finals in 2016.

Costello Finishes Strong: Chad Costello finished the regular season with a four-point night against the Iowa Heartlanders last Saturday night. Costello finished sixth overall in the scoring race with 72 points. It was his first season with the Americans that he didn’t finish with over 100 points.

Familiar Playoff Foe: The Americans and Rush are no strangers to a postseason matchup. The Americans eliminated Rapid City in the 2015 playoffs 4-2. Allen outscored the Rush 29-to-17 in the six-game series. Allen went on to win the Kelly Cup that season beating the South Carolina Stingrays in seven games.

Paulsen Signs in the Division: Former Americans forward Tyler Paulsen, who was released last week by the Americans has signed in the Mountain Division. Paulsen signed with the Tulsa Oilers this week. The 5- foot-8 forward was acquired earlier this season from Worcester.
