The Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the Ottawa Senators (NHL), and Belleville Senators (AHL), dropped their second straight game to the Idaho Steelheads, with a 5-1 loss on Friday night at Idaho Central Arena, in front of a sellout crowd of 5,121 in Boise.
Idaho grabbed the lead for the second game in a row as Janis Svanenbergs ripped one home from the slot for his fifth of the season from Matt Register as Idaho grabbed the 1-0 lead. The Americans tied the game at the 11:04 mark as Colton Hargrove tipped one home on a shot from Colton Saucerman to even the score at 1-1. A former Allen American favorite broke the tie as Zane Franklin scored his third of the year from Matt Register at 15:33 of the first period. That score would hold up through 20 minutes of play.
Idaho would add to their lead in the second frame as Colton Kehler scored unassisted at 12:11 to put the Steelheads up 3-1. They outshot the Americans 25-14 through 40 minutes of action.
The Idaho scoring continued in the third period as Wade Murphy netted his first of the season at10:07 to give the Steelheads their biggest lead of the game, and then Zane Franklin with 0.3 seconds left on the clock fired home his second goal of the game and fourth of the season as the Steelheads beat the Americans for a second straight game.
Idaho outshot Allen 41-29 for the game. The Americans went 0-for-3 on the power play, while Idaho managed one power play goal going 1-for-4.
The final game of the three-game series is on Saturday night at 8:10 pm CST.
