Allen, Texas – The Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the Seattle Kraken (NHL), defeated the Newfoundland Growlers 2-1 on Star Wars Night in Allen.
Allen rookie netminder Chase Perry notched his first professional win stopping 35 of 36 Growlers shots. The St Paul, Minnesota native was a late start for the Americans.
“Chase (Perry) played great tonight,’ said Americans Captain Spencer Asuchak, on with the Americans broadcast during the postgame show. “He was confident out there and didn’t give up many rebounds.”
Dawson Butt and Spencer Asuchak provided the goals for the Americans, who won for the second night in a row. Butt scored early in the first period after Kolten Olynek stole the puck from behind the Growlers net and hit Dawson Butt with the pass for his second goal of the season. Spencer Asuchak scored the eventual game winning goal in the third period, tipping a pass from Phil Beaulieu into the Newfoundland net for his 12th goal of the season.
There was only one power play in the game, and it came early in the opening period. Darian Skeoch was assessed a roughing penalty at the 6:53 mark. The Americans successfully killed off the Growlers power play.
Americans forward Branden Troock left the game early with an injury and never returned. He is questionable for Sunday afternoon’s game.
The Americans look for the sweep on Sunday. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:05 pm. Be sure to join us early for the Americans College Classic as SMU faces North Texas at 10:30 am. The doors open at 10:00 am.
