When the 2021-22 season starts for the Allen Americans, right winger Jack Combs will begin his 12th professional season.
A St. Louis native, Combs’ made his debut in the Ontario Hockey League with the Kitchener Rangers during the 2004-05 season. During his time with the Rangers he posted 6 points (1G, 5A) in 59 games. For the next four seasons, Combs took the ice for the Saginaw Spirit. He played in 260 games and recorded 250 points (95G, 155A), including a 100-point season in 2007-08.
Combs took his skills to the next level in 2009-10 with the Alaska Aces and the Trenton Devils of the ECHL. Between the two clubs he logged 43 points (24G, 19A) in 60 appearances. In addition, Combs skated in three games for the Peoria Rivermen of the American Hockey League, where recorded an assist. The next season, Combs spent most of his time in the Central Hockey League with the Tulsa Oilers. In 64 games he scored 82 points (40G, 42A) for the Oilers, and also saw the ice for three games for the AHL’s Chicago Wolves. In 2011-12, Combs split time with the Worcester Sharks (AHL) and the Colorado Eagles (ECHL), playing 50 and 23 games with each team, respectively. He posted a combined 67 points (33G, 34A) between the two clubs.
For the next two seasons, Combs suited up for five clubs between the ECHL and AHL ranks. The forward compiled 94 points (50G, 44A) in that time for the ECHL’s Colorado Eagles and Cincinnati Cyclones, along with the AHL’s Bridgeport Sound Tigers, San Antonio Rampage and the Oklahoma City Barons. Following a brief start with Bjorkloven IF of the Swedish-1 league, Combs made his first appearance with the Allen Americans. In 32 games in the red sweater, he contributed 56 points (22G, 34A) before finishing his season with the Stockton Thunder and the Cincinnati Cyclones. Combs started the 2015-16 season with the ECHL’s Greenville Swamp Rabbits while also playing 18 games for the Hartford Wolf Pack of the AHL. In a combined 58 games, he tallied 56 points (29G, 27A).
Combs spent the next three years in Germany and Switzerland playing in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga and Swiss league. While with the Fischtown Penguins and Iserlohn Roosters of the DEL, he appeared in 111 games, finding the net 53 times while assisting on another 33 goals. In the Swiss league, Combs saw the ice in 30 games for Kloten HC, scoring 24 points (12G, 12A). In his last season of professional hockey, Combs returned to the ECHL to play for the Wichita Thunder and then a return to Germany for Bad Nauheim of the DEL-2. In 40 games, he posted a 35 point (12G, 23A) line.
This will be Combs’ 2nd season with the Allen Americans.
