Allen, Texas – The Allen Americans (4-2-0-0), defeated the Idaho Steelheads (5-0-2-0) 2-1 in overtime on Sunday afternoon at Allen Event Center in front of a crowd of 3010.
Olivier Archambault scored his third goal of the season in the extra session, walking around an Idaho defenseman and beating Steelheads goalie Tomas Sholl to win it. The Americans are a perfect 3-0 in overtime.
Both goalies were outstanding. Americans goalie Evan Weninger earned his second career victory, stopping 38 of 39 shots to earn the game’s number one star. Tomas Sholl stopped 29 of 31. Sholl was selected the number two star.
Neither team was able to score on the power play. Allen was 0 for 4, while Idaho was 0 for 3. A pretty quiet game, with just 14 minutes total in penalties.
In addition to Olivier Archambault’s game winner in overtime, Tyler Sheehy scored his second of the season and second career goal. Sheehy led the Americans in shots on net with 7 total.
The Americans continue the homestand next weekend with back to back games against the red hot Rapid City Rush.
