Allen, Texas – The Allen Americans clinched a playoff spot for the 8th consecutive season with a 4-2 win over the Wichita Thunder on Saturday night at Allen Event Center. The victory was the Americans seventh straight.
Americans forward Alex Schoenborn scored his first two goals of the season on Saturday night to lead the way for Allen. He scored on the power play in the opening period and then added a shorthanded in the third period to earn the number one star of the game.
“Tonight was a big win for us,” said Schoenborn following the win. “Clinching a playoff spot was just the beginning for us. We have a really talented group here with the hopes of a long postseason run.”
Jamie Murray made the start for Allen stopping 31 of the 33 Wichita shots to earn the second star of the game. Murray helped Allen become the fourth team in the ECHL this season to clinch a playoff spot joining Toledo, Fort Wayne and Colorado.
The Americans travel to Missouri next Wednesday for their final matchup against the Mavericks this season. The club will return home next weekend to play the Tulsa Oilers on March 24th and 25th.
