Allen Texas – The Allen Americans, along with partner Globe Life, are happy to announce the club has signed defenseman Joel Chouinard to a new contract for the 2018-2019 season.
Joel Chouinard returns for a third year with the Americans. He was named the Americans Captain last season after former Co-Captains both departed; Chad Costello left for Europe and Gary Steffes retired.
“I’m really excited to be back with the Americans for a third year,” said Americans Defenseman Joel Chouinard. “Last year’s ending was disappointing. We’re all eager to get things going in October. I guess the only advantage of having a longer off-season is that you have more time to let your body recover from the previous season and work on your strength and conditioning to get ready for the upcoming season. Personally, I will take the next few months to work hard both on and off the ice to be ready for our season opener in October.”
Chouinard played in all 72 games both years with the club. He’s a plus 69 in two seasons with Allen and finished as the ECHL Plus Performer of the Year in 2017 with a +47. He finished fourth on the team in scoring last season with 51 points.
The native of Sherbrooke, PQ is a former 6th Round Draft pick of the Colorado Avalanche, selected 167th overall in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. He played his junior hockey with the Victoriaville Tigres of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League from 2007 to 2010.
The Americans home opener is Saturday, October 20th against the Wichita Thunder. For more information call 972-912-1000.
