Allen, Texas – The Allen Americans ECHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks, host the Tulsa Oilers this afternoon at 4:05 PM at Allen Event Center on Pucks-N-Paws Day in Allen.
For the third Sunday in a row, the Tulsa Oilers will invade Allen Event Center, with the Americans winning the last meeting 2-1 in a shootout.
Americans goalie Stephon Williams was the star of the show last week with an impressive 46-save performance on 47 Tulsa shots. Williams has lowered his goals-against average to 2.22 and has a save percentage of .934. Is his three starts against the Tulsa Oilers this season, Williams has stopped 107 of 113 shots attempted and 72 of 74 shots in the last two meetings.
“Stephon (Williams) has been really good over the last several starts,” said Americans defenseman Eric Roy. “We have confidence in both guys right now. Brodeur gave us a chance to win last night, but some mental mistakes in the third period cost us the game.”
The Americans have three out of a possible four points so far, with a 2-1 win on Friday night and a point last night in the shootout loss.
Allen defenseman Mike Gunn left the game last night with an upper body injury and will be evaluated today by team physicians. His status for this afternoon’s game is unknown at this time.
Peter MacArthur is starting to heat up for Allen, with goals in consecutive games and seven points on the season in 11 games (3 goals and 4 assists). MacArthur is coming off a 63-point season last year in Adirondack.
They Said It – Peter MacArthur
Just trying to play hard. For me, coming into a team with the success they’ve had and the pedigree they have, I just want to fit in and help us win. I just work hard, stay with the framework of the team, and help us get wins.
Why has the team been getting outshot and outplayed the last two night’s in the third period?
We just gotta be smart. Marty laid it out for us and told us what to do. We just seemed to be getting no stick penalties, lazy penalties, and if you give a professional hockey team that many opportunities they’re gonna cash in. I think we pretty much just gave it to them in the third.
In the last six games, you guys have scored more than six goals just twice. What do you guys have to do to, more consistently as a team, put the puck in the back of the net?
Just keep it simple and be unselfish. A lot of guys on this team have a lot of skill and they’re probably used to being the go-to guy and I think once we become more of one cohesive unit and don’t really care who gets that cookie at the end of the play, we’ll be a lot better off.

About the Americans
The Allen Americans play in the ECHL, the premiere AA hockey league in North America. The Americans were established in 2009 and have won four AA championships in eight full seasons of minor pro hockey. In those eight seasons, Allen has qualified for the playoffs every year with five trips to the league finals. Allen will enter its fourth season in the ECHL this October, after playing five years in the now defunct Central Hockey League.
