Kansas City, MO – The Americans and Kansas City Mavericks met for the final time in the regular season on Friday night with the Mavericks coming away with the victory.
A quiet opening period with just 14 shots total. The Mavericks would finally solve Americans netminder Kyle Hayton at the 15:17 mark when Rocco Carzo deflected a Nick Widman shot past Hayton to give the Mavericks a 1-0 lead. Allen outshot the Mavericks 8 to 6 in the opening period. Kansas City had the only power play opportunity and was 0 for 1.
Neither team could find the back of the net in the second frame, as the Americans outshot the Mavericks 16 to 9. Kyle Hayton made several big saves in that second period. Both teams had power play opportunities but couldn’t score.
The game remained 1-0 until late in the third period when the Mavericks sealed the victory with an empty net goal. Kansas City would go on to win by a score of 2-0. Kyle Hayton was huge for Allen, stopping 18 of the19 shots he faced.
The Americans return to action next Friday night at home against the Worcester Railers. Puck drop is at 7:05 pm.
