Allen, Texas – The Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks, host the Idaho Steelheads tonight at 7:05 PM at Allen Event Center.
Allen has a winning streak for the first time since opening weekend. The Americans jumped out to a fast start last night, outshooting Idaho 26 to 17 through the first 40-minutes of play. Allen had a 2-0 lead late in the second frame before Idaho answered at the 15:39 mark, as the Americans were unable to clear the puck out of their zone and giving way to Brady Brassart’s 6th goal of the season. Idaho would take over in the third period, outshooting the Americans 12 to 7 and forcing goaltender Stephon Williams to steal the victory by denying Idaho of several good scoring chances late.
“We tried to score instead of trying to win the game,” said Americans Head Coach Steve Martinson following 2-1 win. “I thought a lot of our top guys from last year weren’t very good and got caught cheating and trying to score, instead of playing a greasy game.”
Stephon Williams won his second straight start, and for the second game in a row, he allowed just one goal in 60 minutes of work. That’s three starts in a row for the San Jose Sharks prospect, who now has a .934 save percentage.
“Stephon (Williams) was great,” said Americans defenseman Mike Gunn. “He stood on his head in the third period and led us to victory when we were struggling as a group.”
The Americans played without several of the regulars last night, as Tanner Eberle and Zach Hall were both put on reserve. Dalton Thrower and Zach Pochiro both continue to battle upper body injuries.

About the Americans
The Allen Americans play in the ECHL, the premiere AA hockey league in North America. The Americans were established in 2009 and have won four AA championships in eight full seasons of minor pro hockey. In those eight seasons, Allen has qualified for the playoffs every year with five trips to the league finals. Allen will enter its fourth season in the ECHL this October, after playing five years in the now defunct Central Hockey League.
