Allen, Texas – The Allen Americans look for a 2-0 series lead tonight when they host the Utah Grizzlies in Game 2 of the ECHL Kelly Cup Playoffs. Puck drop at Allen Event Center is 7:05 PM.
The Americans battled back from a 3-1 deficit on Wednesday night, to take Game 1 by a 4-3 score. Joel Chouinard, who was voted the first star of Game 1, had a goal and an assist in the win. His goal turned out to be the game winner for Allen.
“The third period pretty much sums up our team,” said Chouinard. “We always believe we have a chance to come back, no matter how much the deficit. Murray (Jamie) did an outstanding job coming in for Riley (Gill).”
Riley Gill, who was named the ECHL Warrior Hockey Goaltender of the Year yesterday, left the game in the first period on Wednesday night after taking a puck to the neck. He will be listed as day to day for Allen.
The Americans penalty kill got off to a great start on Wednesday, stopping all four Utah power play attempts. The Americans went 1 for 5 on the power play, with Joel Chouinard scoring with the man-advantage late in the third.
Many were asking yesterday why the Allen empty-net goal scored on Wednesday night was disallowed. It was ruled on the ice, that the puck crossed the goal-line after the clock reached zero. Thus, the goal was never recorded.
