Allen, Texas -The Allen Americans dropped a second game in the series on Saturday night, losing a 5-2 decision to the Colorado Eagles who took a 2-0 series lead.
The Eagles jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first to grab the momentum. Johnny Lazo scored his second of the playoffs to give Colorado the early advantage. The Eagles added two more in the second frame. First, Alex Belzile netted his 7th at the 9:51 mark. Then Matt Register scored his 4th of the playoffs at 14:27 of the first period. His goal would turn out to be the game winning goal for Colorado.
Colorado took a 3-0 lead to the third, before Gary Steffes cut the lead to 3-1 with his first of the playoffs. The Americans cut the lead to 3-2 when Josh Brittain slammed one home at 16:28 of the final frame, to make it a one goal game, but that’s where it ended. The Eagles added a fourth, as Alex Belzile scored his second of the game and 8th of the season. Colorado added an empty net goal late to make it a 5-2 final and take a 2-0 lead back to Colorado.
“It was a tough one to swallow,” said Americans forward Gary Steffes. “When Brittain (Josh) scored, we felt the energy in the building. That fourth goal for Colorado really hurt us. I know it’s not looking great right now, but this team has too much to play for and Colorado will be in for a fight in Game 3.”
