Allen, Texas – The Colorado Eagles defeated the Allen Americans 4-1 on Friday night at Allen Event Center to take a 1-0 series lead in Game 1, Round 2 of the Western Conference playoffs.
The Eagles jumped out to a 2-1 first period lead on goals from Cam Maclise (3) and Alex Belzile (6) and never looked back. Belzile’s goal turned out to be the game winner for Colorado coming at 9:24 of the first period.
The Eagles out-chanced and outshot the Americans. Colorado had 31 shots on goal to 25 for Allen. Both teams had a power play goal, with Colorado going 1 for 5 with the man-advantage while Allen went 1 for 6.
Greger Hanson had the lone Americans goal, his third of the season coming half way through the opening period with Chad Costello and Eric Roy picking up the assists.
“Tonight wasn’t one of our best games, said Americans Forward Greger Hanson. “We were outplayed by Colorado and didn’t execute on our scoring chances. We’ll make some adjustments and come out stronger and more focused tomorrow night.”
Jake Marto led the way for Colorado with two goals, his first and second of the playoffs. Alex Belzile had a goal and an assist while Colorado netminder Lukas Hafner stopped 24 of 25 shots in net.
