Allen, Texas – The Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks, dropped a 5-4 decision in a shootout.
In a bizarre game that saw Idaho jump on the Americans early, scoring the first two goals of the game, only to see Allen respond with four unanswered of their own and then have Idaho battle back to tie it in the third period.
60 minutes would not be enough, as the two teams would need a shootout to decide this one. Justin Parizek scored the only goal in the extra session, lifting Idaho to a one goal victory and ending the Americans two-game winning streak.
Allen scored three power play goals on Saturday night, including two by Americans forward Mathieu Aubin (2). Peter MacArthur (3) and Vincent Arseneau (3) also scored for the second game in a row.
Allen went 3 for 8 on the power play this evening, but gave up yet another shorthanded goal, their fourth allowed this season.
Joel Chouinard had four assists for Allen on Saturday night in defeat, tying Olivier Archambault’s four-point game on opening night in Rapid City.
The Steelheads outshot Allen 37 to 33 for the game. Jeremy Brodeur got the start for Allen, stopping 32 of 36 shots.
The Americans host Tulsa tomorrow afternoon at 4:05 PM on Pucks-N-Paws Sunday. Call 972-912-1000 for tickets or visit Allen Event Center Box Office tomorrow morning at 10:00 AM.

Just the second time in the last six you guys have scored more than two goals. What was effective in putting the puck in the back of the net tonight?
“I think our power play was very solid tonight. We had lots of good looks and I think we were doing the right things in the first and second periods. Then we took a lot of bad penalties in the third and I think that’s what cost us the game.”
Two goals for you tonight, your first two on the season, what were you doing to find success out there?
“It was two power play goals infront of the net. I was trying to get a good screen on the goalie and the first one hit me and the second one rebounded. I was just working hard infront of the net and it paid off.”
That game kind of lost control at some parts. You have another game tomorrow against a different team. What do you have to do to come out and stay level-headed?
“I think it’s not getting to low (confidence). It’s very frustrating to lose at home like this, being up four to two, but it’s a big two points tomorrow. We just have to regroup and be ready.”

About the Americans
The Allen Americans play in the ECHL, the premiere AA hockey league in North America. The Americans were established in 2009 and have won four AA championships in eight full seasons of minor pro hockey. In those eight seasons, Allen has qualified for the playoffs every year with five trips to the league finals. Allen will enter its fourth season in the ECHL this October, after playing five years in the now defunct Central Hockey League.
