Allen, Texas – The Allen Americans season came to an end on Tuesday night at the Allen Event Center after a 4-3 loss to the Colorado Eagles, who won the series in six games.
Former Americans defenseman Matt Register, scored the go-ahead goal with just over a minute left in regulation to give Colorado a 4-3 lead. Allen would pull goalie Riley Gill in favor of the extra attacker, but the Eagles would hold on for the win and advance on to the Western Conference Finals against Toledo.
“This is not how we wanted it to end,” said Co-Captain Gary Steffes. “We played so hard to get back into the series, but fell a little short. Credit to Colorado who is a great team and earned the series win. We’ll be back in October ready to make another run.”
This is the first time since 2012 that the Americans have lost a playoff series. Two Presidents’ Cup Championships in the Central Hockey League and Two Kelly Cup Championships in the ECHL.
The Americans would like to thank their great fans for all the support over the long run. We couldn’t have done it without you.
