AMERICANS ADD SIZE AND TOUGHNESS TO THE BLUELINE WITH THE RETURN OF MIKE GUNN
July 6th, 2017 by Tommy Daniels
Allen, Texas – The Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks, announced today that the club has signed Mike Gunn to a contract for the 2017-2018 season.
Mike Gunn, at 6-3 and 210 pounds, brings size to the Allen D-core. The 25-year old native of Livonia, Michigan, returns to the Americans for a third season. He was acquired from Wheeling in a trade in 2015.
Gunn played in 61 games for the Americans last year, adding 14 points and 102 penalty minutes while finishing a plus 20 for the season. He’ll begin his fourth year as a professional this October.
“It’s great organization from the front office on down,” said Americans defenseman Mike Gunn. “It was an easy decision to come back and I’m honored that Coach Martinson wants me back to be a part of this great team. We have some amazing fans here in Allen. They stand by us no matter what. We owe them more than we gave them last season. Anything short of a championship here in Allen, with the talent we have, is unacceptable.”
The Americans open the regular season on Friday, October 13th in Rapid City, with the home opener on Saturday, October 21st against Orlando. Click here for the complete 2017-2018 schedule.
