Tulsa, OK – The Tulsa Oilers exploded for eight goals on Saturday night, handing the Allen Americans an 8-5 loss in the third of three games between the two teams this week.
Tulsa’s Darcy Murphy and Garrett Ladd each scored two goals to lead the Oilers charge. After Murphy opened the scoring at 2:17 of the opening frame with his 13th goal of the season, Gary Steffes tied the score for Allen just over a minute later with his 13th goal of the year to bring Allen as close as they would get to Tulsa the rest of the night. The Oilers outscored the Americans 4-2 in the opening frame.
The Oilers would add three more in the second period to build a 7-2 lead after forty minutes of play. The Americans offence showed a little life in the third period with goals from David Makowski, Spencer Asuchak and Eric Roy to make the score a little more respectable, but in the end Tulsa was too much for Allen on Saturday night ending the Americans three-game winning streak and ending their seven-game losing skid.
“They jumped on us early and we never recovered,” said Americans forward Spencer Asuchak. It was disappointing to make that four hour drive to Tulsa and not give a good enough effort to give ourselves a chance.”
Jamie Murray started for Allen and gave up all eight goals suffering the loss. A night after scoring four power play goals the Americans went 0 for 6 on the man-advantage, while Tulsa went 3 for 8.
Derek Mathers and Reid Halabi went two more rounds on Saturday night with Mathers making quick work of Halabi in both tilts. The Americans return to action next Wednesday night as they open a three-game series in Rapid City.
