Allen, Texas – The ECHL Kelly Cup Champion Allen Americans announced today that the team has come to terms with the 2014-2015 ECHL scoring leader, Chad Costello for the 2015-2016 season.
“It’s fitting that Chad is our first signing,” said Americans Head Coach Steve Martinson. “Chad was the cornerstone of our league leading offence. We plan on scoring a lot of goals this season as well.”
Costello had 125 points in 72 games for the Allen Americans last season (41g and 84a). The native of Johnston, Iowa, was in his first season with Allen. He won the scoring title by 45 points, as the next closest player at 80 points.
He, along with Gary Steffes (44), became the first two 40-plus goal scorers in team history. In addition to winning the scoring title, he led the league in assists with 84 and power play assists with 35. He won the ECHL Sportsmanship Award, finishing the season with just 36 penalty minutes.
He was second on the Americans in points in the Kelly Cup Playoffs, finishing one behind Greger Hanson with 28. Among his other accomplishments last season included finishing runner-up to Jeff Jakaitis for the ECHL MVP Award.
Costello was the first player signing announced by the Americans for a second season in a row. He and his wife Ashley have two children.
