Box Score

Rapid City, SD – The Allen Americans blew two leads on Wednesday night, but still managed to get the job done. Randy Cure tied the score in the third period with his first goal of the season, and then Eric Roy won it for Allen with 30.9 seconds left in overtime to give the Allen Americans a 5-4 victory over the Rapid City Rush in front if 1,741 fans at Rushmore Civic Center.

Five different players scored for the Americans on Wednesday night. David Makowski netted his 10th in the opening period from Chad Costello and Spencer Asuchak to give the Americans a 1-0 lead. Logan Nelson tied it for Rapid City with just over a minute left in the first period to make it a 1-1 game at the end of the first frame. Rapid City outshot Allen 14 to 8 in the period.

Chad Costello gave the Americans their first lead of the night in the second period with his 25th goal of the season at the 4:17 mark of the period. Mark Cooper would tie the score with his first of the game at the 7:02 mark after an Allen mistake. The Rush would answer again 42-seconds later after another Allen giveaway resulted in Nick Miglio’s sixth of the season unassisted and the Rush led the game 3-2. The Americans would answer on the power play at the 14:01 mark when Spencer Asuchak poked home his 20th of the season from Chad Costello and Greger Hanson to tie the score at 3-3. Mark Cooper answered with his second of the night and 11th of the season late in the third to put Rapid City back on top 4-3, and the Rush would take a one-goal lead to the locker room.

Riley Gill entered the game in the third period in relief of Jamie Murray for Allen. Randy Cure had the only goal of the third period to even it up once again, this time at 4-4. It remained that way until late in overtime when Eric Roy drove to the net and knocked one home past Rush goalie Adam Morrison, for his 12th goal of the season to give the Americans the victory.

“Eric Roy has good speed and moves his feet well,” said Americans Head Coach Steve Martinson. “He made a great rush to the net and got rewarded for it. He’s got a lot of skill around the net.”

The Americans and Rush will resume their three-game series on Friday night at the Rushmore Civic Center. Puck drop will be at 8:05 PM CST.
