Rapid City, SD – The Allen Americans, two-time defending Kelly Cup Champions and ECHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks, open a three-game series in the Black Hills of South Dakota tonight at 7:35 PM CST.
The Americans are coming off a road loss in Tulsa last Saturday night. Allen is 2-2-0-1 in their last five road games. The Americans begin a seven-game stretch facing teams under .500 with a combined record of 29-52-8-2. Upcoming opponents, Rapid City and Indy, are both 3-7-0-0 in their last ten games.
“You can’t look at records and automatically pencil in two points,” said Americans Co-Captain Gary Steffes. “These teams are fighting to get back in the playoff race. A lot of these guys are playing for jobs next season. There are no easy games in this league.”
Riley Gill is flying into Rapid City today to join his team after being under the weather the last few days. Gill’s last outing was a 5-1 win over Tulsa last Thursday. Gill leads the ECHL in both save percentage (.940), and goals-against average (2.07).
David Makowski comes into tonight’s game on a red-hot streak. In three games last week, Makowski had four goals and five assists for nine points to lead Allen to two wins in three games.
The Americans dropped their only game against Rapid City 6-3, back in November. Jamie Murray started that game for Allen and took the loss. Lindsay Sparks of the Rush had two goals that night to lead Rapid City. Derek Mathers had a goal and an assist for the Americans.
Allen will have a new player in their lineup tonight, with forward Jon Martin being assigned to the Americans from San Jose. Martin is a big power forward who can score. The top two lines for Allen yesterday had Spencer Asuchak centering with Greger Hanson and Chad Costello, and the second line of Josh Brittain in between Bryan Moore and Gary Steffes. The Americans will have a decision on who sits tonight, with the full lineup close to healthy.
Puck drop tonight from the Rushmore Civic Center will be at 7:35 PM CST. Listen to the game on Mixlr app. Go to www.allenamericans.com and click listen live.
